Marlis Rufener will be teaching the art and fun of polymer beadmaking. Interested students will be shown how to use their finished beads and pendants in their own jewelry, or just as small sculptures.
Marlis has always been intrigued with the beauty of the natural world as well as the created world. The patterns, textures and structures in her architectural design inspire her artwork as do the amazing views and details of ever-changing nature. Creativity is easily inspired while living in such a lovely part of Oregon, with long vistas of valleys and softly rolling ancient mountains; with open grassy meadows; with burbling rocky streams and incredible sunsets.
Besides her architectural design work, Marlis fuses glass (right) and makes jewelry for sale at many regional galleries. She has degrees from the University of Washington in architecture, fine arts (interior design) and education. She has also done graduate work in Urban Planning and urban design.
Not only will Marlis be teaching the skill of femo beads at the Arts Festival, she will also be giving a spinning wheel demonstration at the Cherry Fair. You are welcome to use your own spinning wheel or use the wheels that will be provided for participants.
